SIBU, May 4: A total of 13 schools in Song District will be equipped with telecommunication facilities under Point of Present (PoP) Phase Two Project.
Federal Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Teo Nie Ching was briefed on this development during her working visit to Song near Sibu here today.
According to a press release, only SK Cardinal Vaughan has been developed under Phase One of the PoP Project currently.
Implemented by Borneo Restu company, the Phase Two PoP project is targeting a total of 681 units, which would benefit at least 68,100 users within a 3km radius of nearby communities and premises.
The PoP Project main aims are to provide high-speed internet access, especially to rural communities, apart from reducing the digital divide among people to keep pace with the latest technological advances.
After the briefing session, Teo visited the PEDi (community internet centre) in Song town and the telecommunication tower under the National Digital Network (Jendela) at Nanga Sesawak.
She also attended the Raya Gawai Programme hosted by RTM Sibu before embarking back to Kuala Lumpur at 7.10pm.
