KUCHING, Mar 15: A total of 13 foreign students from ten countries have been fined for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) at night clubs here.
Out of the 13, two SOP defaulters each are from Russia, Sri Lanka and Egypt while one from Zimbabwe, Yemean, Kazakhstan, Holland, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia respectively.
These 13 foreigners are among the 102 who have been issued RM10,000 compounds across Sarawak.
Meanwhile, according to Deputy Kuching OCPD Supt Ismail Mahmood, the police are not vested with the authority to reduce the penalty amount and all defaulters will have to settle the compound at the Health Department Office at either district or division level.
“We only follow the instruction when we issue the RM10,000 compound. Even though the compound may indicate RM10,000 as the penalty charge, it does not mean that the person must pay that amount,” he said.
According to him, the compound may be reduced if the defaulter is a first time offender. — DayakDaily
