KUCHING, July 26: A 12-year-old boy was among the 12 individuals who were injured following a factory fire at the Kemena Industrial Estate in Bintulu on Friday (July 25).
According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), an emergency call was received at 7.30pm, and firefighters from Bintulu station were deployed with assistance from the Kidurong station.
Upon arrival, it was noted that the fire involved a a pile of processed wood burning outside a building, estimated to cover an area of 80×60 square feet.
The fire also destroyed two boilers and caused approximately 10 per cent of damage to the building structure.
A total of 12 victims were reported to have sustained burn injuries and received initial treatment from Health Ministry personnel and the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit.
Of the victims, 10 are Indonesian nationals, while two are locals. All are males except for a 43-year-old Indonesian woman. All victims were brought to Bintulu Hospital.
Firefighters proceeded to extinguish the fire and after ensuring the situation was safe, they returned to their respective stations. — DayakDaily
