SIBU, June 27: A total of 125 homeowners in Taman Rajang, who have yet to register for compensation under the central sewerage system improvement project, are urged to do so immediately at the Pelawan Constituency Service Centre before the deadline on July 4.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Deputy Minister for Local Government, who is also Pelawan assemblyman, Datuk Michael Tiang, emphasised that registration is essential to ensure all eligible homeowners receive the compensation promised by the Sarawak government.
“This initiative fulfils the commitment made by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the 2018 General Election to allocate RM3 million for the upgrading of the sewerage system in Taman Rajang,” he said during a visit to the neighbourhood on Thursday (June 26).
Tiang added that the compensation brings much-needed relief to residents who had previously used their own savings to install individual septic tank systems.
“Before this project was implemented, 320 households had taken the initiative to install their own septic tanks and later sought financial assistance through my office.
“In 2020, I pledged to bring this compensation matter to the attention of the Premier, and I’m proud to share that it has now been approved. This is the result of our collective efforts and a win for the wellbeing of the residents,” he said.
So far, 195 homeowners have registered, leaving 125 who have yet to do so.
“I urge those who have not registered to come forward as soon as possible. This is your right, and we want to ensure no one is left out,” he added.
Homeowners are advised to bring supporting documents such as their identity card (IC), land title, assessment bills, or utility bills to complete the registration process.
For enquiries regarding eligibility or registration, residents can contact the Pelawan Constituency Service Centre at 012-760 9822 or visit the service centre in person for assistance.
The local community is also encouraged to help spread the word to neighbours, family members, and friends who may not yet be informed. — DayakDaily
