SIBU, June 25: Police have arrested and imposed a compound of RM4,000 each on 12 youths for gathering by the roadside which is a violation under Movement Control Order (MCO)’s standard operating procedures (SOP) here last night.

Sibu District Police Chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the 12, aged between 15 to 21, were arrested by a police SOP monitoring team at 8pm at Jalan Punai here.

He said they were compounded a maximum of RM4,000 per person for the offence of gathering with more than two people which is against the SOP under the MCO as well as the failure to give a reasonable excuse to gather at the place.

“They are compounded under Regulation 17 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in Local Areas of Infection) (No.3) 2021 Regulations, which is an offence of gathering without a reasonable excuse,” he explained.

All of them are required to pay the compounds at the Sibu District Health Office within 14 days.

“The team has also issued 33 summonses against eight motorcycle owners who were among the 12 for various offences under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said. — DayakDaily
