11 joggers fined for SOP violations during MCO period

KUCHING, June 14: The 11 compounds dished out by the police to 11 joggers are among the 56 compounds reported by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily Covid-19 statement today.

The 11 joggers were fined for exercising in public places during this the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, which has been extended to June 28.


Apart from the 11 joggers, 18 others were also penalised for hanging out in public places without any valid reason after 10pm while another 10 were given the compounds for gathering and not adhering to physical distancing, all of which are against the Covid-19 preventive standard operating procedure (SOP).

As many as eight individuals were fined for carrying more than permitted number of passengers in their vehicles.

Despite the constant call to wear masks since 2019 following the outbreak of first Covid-19 case, there were still four compounded for not wearing masks.

Two individuals were penalised for opening their business premises which did not offer essential services while one fined for ignoring the quarantine order by leaving the house.

One individual was compounded for dine-in and so was another for carrying out activities not allowed during the MCO.

The 56 compounds today have pushed up the total number of compounds issued by the police since March 18 to 7,865.

Among the districts, Sibu led with the highest number of 26 individuals being compounded.

Sibu was followed by Kuching (12), Bintulu (4), Kota Samarahan (4), Lawas (3), Sarikei (3), Marudi (2) and both Miri and Kapit one respectively. — DayakDaily
