11 illegal workers nabbed in two raids

MIRI, Jan 17: Two women were amongst 11 illegal foreign workers detained during a joint operation held by Miri Immigration Department and the 12th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) for having no valid working permits, in two separates raids held at construction sites this morning.

The two locations were construction sites at Jalan Airport Miri and Jalan Luak here.

The operation kicked off at around 10.15am with a total of 54 enforcement officers taking part. They were divided into two groups to conduct the raids.


Two local men aged 53 and 42-years-old believed to be the workers’ employers were also arrested for further questioning.

The detained illegal workers comprised seven Indonesians and six Filipinos (Suluk). All detainees were brought to the Bekenu Immigration depot.

A total of 60 construction workers underwent inspection during the raids. — DayakDaily
