KUCHING, Jan 19: The 10th Mile People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) operation centre is ready to deploy its teams and assets for possible flood relief work in the Padawan area.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang together with Datuk Paduka Wong Say Khim, Datuk Tan Joo Phoi and Kapitan Chin Hon Yun visited the centre located behind the council today to monitor and ensure the team’s readiness and proper resources are available for an emergency.

Lo said that the 10th Mile Rela operation centre was established in 1986 and has since recruited a team of 150 volunteers who have been serving the area in times of need.

“In addition to providing rescue and assistance to cushion the impact of floods, the centre also offers assistance in relieving the inconvenience caused by other disasters,” he added in a statement today.

Lo, who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman, revealed that his team has also set up voluntary operation centres at the low-lying areas and villages in Batu Kitang.

“The centres are equipped with motorised boats and ready to be used by volunteer teams in times of need,” he said. — DayakDaily
