SIBU, Dec 6: A vessel laden with 10,000 litres of diesel worth RM171,800 was detained by police on Wednesday (Dec 4).

Sarawak Marine Police Region Five commander ACP Shamsol Kassim said on Friday (Dec 6) that at about 8.15pm on Dec 4, a team of officers and personnel from Sibu Marine Police stopped and inspected a vessel at a wharf in Batang Igan.

“As a result of the inspection, the team found the diesel placed inside a tank in the deck,” he said.

Shamsol said two crew members of the vessel were subsequently being detained after they could not furnish documents from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry on the legality of the diesel.

The case is being investigated under Section 20 of the Supply Control Act 1960.

The diesel, he said had been referred to the ministry for further action. —DayakDaily
