KUCHING, Oct 4: A lantern-lighting ceremony and the distribution of 1,000 piglet-shaped mooncakes and traditional paper lanterns to children will be among the highlights of the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration at the Malaysia-China Friendship Park on Oct 6.
Organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) in collaboration with Isekai, the festival runs from Oct 2 to 12, with the main programme on the actual day of the Mid-Autumn Festival beginning at 7.30pm.
Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the mooncakes and lanterns will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
“So let’s come together and join in the festivities,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk live session today.

The festival will feature 30 to 40 stalls alongside performances by local singers and entertainers, giving young talents a platform to showcase their skills while fostering community spirit.
Wee expressed appreciation to members of the Chinese community for sponsoring the event and supporting youth, noting that such contributions reflect the values of mutual help and togetherness.
“Most importantly, the Mid-Autumn Festival is about reunion,” he reminded, advising the public not to overindulge in mooncakes due to their high sugar content but instead to focus on cherishing time with family.
“As the moon becomes full, let families also be whole. Let us value this festival, spend more time with our families, and celebrate unity,” he added.
Meanwhile, MBKS is also presenting traditional mini mooncakes shaped like butterflies and goldfish to traders and visitors at markets across the city, including Kenyalang and Stutong. — DayakDaily
