SIBU, May 3: Some 1,000 former students, teachers and others affiliated with Sacred Heart School are expected to gather on November 5 to mark the 120th anniversary of the school’s founding.

Sacred Heart School Old Students’ Association (SHOSA) president Yong King Sung said that the 120th anniversary celebration would be hosted by the school’s board of management, with SHOSA tasked with organising it.

According to a press release today, Yong added that SHOSA has carried out a series of events since 2021 to mark the momentous event, beginning with a walk held in honour of their late principal, Reverend Brother Albinus, in conjunction with the renaming of a stretch of Oya Road to Brother Albinus Road.

This was followed up with a fund raising drive to refurbish their Mill Hill-La Salle Centenary School Hall, SHS White Knights Quest to provide financial relief to underprivileged students at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, a face mask programme, SHS Knights golden polo, and a 120th anniversary signage at the school’s compound.

“Next on our to-do list would be the 120th Anniversary Square, which will be at the side of our Centenary School Hall.

“Another item to be produced is a pictorial book. We hope that former students would scan whatever related photos they may have of their time in school and email it to us, for possible inclusion into this e-book,” he said when speaking after a luncheon meeting on Monday (May 2).

Bookings for the grand dinner on November 5, which will be held at Kingwood Hotel, have opened with more than 20 tables snapped up by cohorts from different years so far.

For more information regarding the event, former students or commonly called Knights of SHS, have been asked to contact their pack leaders for the respective years.

Alternatively, they can email their enquiries to https://sacredheart.com.my under the ‘Contact Us’ section.

Sacred Heart School was founded by the Mill Hill Brothers in 1901 by the banks of Rajang River before the La Salle Brothers took over its administration.

The last La Salle Brother to lead the school was Brother Albinus, a much loved and highly respected principal by not just his former students, but by the town’s folks as well. — DayakDaily
