10 more Covid-19 cases in Sarawak

KUCHING, Apr 17: Sarawak recorded another 10 positive cases of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) with no casualty reported.

With the additional cases, Sarawak has a total of 397 positive cases of Covid-10 to date since Mar 13.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chief advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian revealed that out of the 10 positive cases, seven cases were currently being treated at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), two at Miri Hospital and one at Sibu Hospital.


“Sarawak recorded 119 new persons under investigation (PUI) cases today bringing the cumulative total to 3,184 cases.

“Of these cumulative total, 2,687 cases have tested negative while 100 cases are awaiting laboratory test result,” Dr Sim who is Local Government and Housing Minister said during a press conference to provide the updates on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today.

Based on locations, he stated that out of the 119 new PUI cases, Kuching had the highest number with 79 new PUI cases followed by Serian with 13 cases, Miri (10), Samarahan (7), Bau (2), Bintulu (2), Lundu (1), Asajaya (1), Simunjan (1), Sri Aman (1) Betong (1) and Sarikei (1).

On another note, Dr Sim said the compliance rate for the movement control order throughout Sarawak stood at 97 per cent.

Thus, he hoped that Sarawakians will continue to comply with all the directives from the state government in order to break the chain of Covid-19 infection in Sarawak.—DayakDaily
