10 local transmissions among 15 new Covid-19 cases recorded

KUCHING, Aug 6: Malaysia recorded 15 new Covid-19 cases today, of which 10 were local transmissions.

Ministry of Health (MOH) director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the national tally has now risen to a total of 9,038 Covid-19 cases.

“Today, Kedah recorded six cases from the PUI Sivagangga cluster, followed by four cases in Sabah, two cases each in Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan, and one case in Labuan.

“From the 15 cases, ten were local transmissions involved eight Malaysians and two foreigners. The remaining five cases were imported, of which four were from the Philippines and one from South Africa returning to Malaysia,” he said during a Covid-19 press conference in Putrajaya.

MOH also disclosed 11 more patients have recovered and were discharged from hospitals, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 8,713.

The number of active cases as of today stands at 200.

No fatality was reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) today, and the total number of fatalities remains at 125.

Two patients are currently being treated in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) with one needing ventilator support.

“Meanwhile, to-date, the PUI Sivagangga cluster has recorded 30 positive cases involving 25 Malaysians and five foreigners.

“Out of the 2,351 people who’ve gone for swab tests, 1,617 tested negative and 704 are still awaiting their results,” Dr Noor Hisham disclosed.

He added that active case detection on this cluster is still ongoing. — DayakDaily
