1 dead, 3 injured after trees fall on vehicles in Mukah, Kanowit

KUCHING, July 18: A man in Mukah died while three people, including a child and a teenager, were injured in Kanowit after trees fell on their vehicles in two separate incidents on Thursday (July 17).

According to reports from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), in the first incident in Mukah, a call was received at 9.04pm, and firefighters from the Mukah station were deployed.

Upon arrival, the operations commander reported that a tree had fallen and crushed a motorcyclist.

Firefighters proceeded to cut the tree and move the victim to a safe location, who was pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel who were at the location.

The deceased, identified as 43-year-old Muhammad Ishaq, who was a Pakistani national, was then handed over to the police.

Meanwhile, a call was received at 9.03pm regarding the incident in Mukah, and firefighters from the Kanowit station were dispatched to the scene.

The report noted that a tree had fallen and crushed a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle and injured three victims—a 33-year-old woman, a 14-year-old boy, and an eight-year-old girl—who sustained minor injuries.

Two victims, the woman and the girl, were still trapped in the vehicle while the public assisted the teenage boy before being brought to the hospital by the ambulance, before firefighters arrived.

The two female victims were later extricated and brought to the hospital as well. — DayakDaily
