KUCHING, Nov 28: Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing has made it clear that tour guides who illegally sell tour packages outside the scope of licensed operators will not be tolerated.

In a Facebook post on Thursday (Nov 27), he said that such practices undermine the integrity of the industry, and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) will not hesitate to revoke the licences of those involved—stressing that safeguarding tourists and upholding professionalism remain its top priorities.

Tiong said this following an industry engagement session held recently in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

He said during the session that concerns over the illegal sale of tour packages, the involvement of foreign nationals operating tourism businesses, tourist safety, licensing matters, and the urgent need to improve government digital platforms were raised.

“I urge all tourism industry players to continue elevating service quality and hospitality standards to deliver tourism experiences that are competitive, meaningful and trusted.

“Only through disciplined self-regulation and close collaboration between the industry and government agencies can Malaysia’s tourism ecosystem grow stronger, thrive, and develop sustainably,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tiong, who is also the assemblyman for Dudong and MP for Bintulu, said his ministry is also committed to revisiting several tourism-related matters involving the Sabah government once a new State administration is in place, as many of the issues raised require coordinated attention and proper alignment across relevant agencies. — DayakDaily
