KUCHING, Sept 7: Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) and Sarawak Development Institute (SDI) have succeeded in making it into the Malaysia Book of Record (MBR) for the “Most Number of ‘Unity’ Short Stories” through the Sarawak’s Pride project.
SDI in a press statement today revealed the record attempt was officially approved on July 28 this year, with a total number of 1,118 short story submissions from members of the public.
“An award ceremony for the achievement will be held on Sept 10, at a local hotel in Kuching, with the Governor of Sarawak, His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and the chairman of YPS is expected to grace the ceremony and to receive the award from MBR,” the statement read.
The ceremony will be streamed live on the Unit Komunikasi Awam Sarawak (Ukas) Facebook page and the organiser also invited all the authors of the unity stories and everyone who has contributed to the project to join in.
The Sarawak’s Pride Project began in February 2019 with the objective of collecting short stories on unity from members of the public, with a total of 450 of these stories displayed in a maze launched at Kuching Waterfront in August 2019. The display was later brought to different parts of Sarawak to be exhibited, namely Sarikei, Sibu and Miri.
The secretariat continued to appeal for more stories throughout 2019 and till the end of May 2020. Further updates on the project will be available on the respective event pages on Facebook and Instagram (#swkpride).
