Youth threatens to kill his parents at pre-Christmas gathering

MIRI, Dec 21: A pre-Christmas family get-together nearly turned tragic when a 32-year-old man suddenly whipped out a machete and threatened to kill his parents for refusing to give him money.

The incident happened at a house in Pujut 5A here yesterday afternoon.


The police were immediately alerted as terrified family members and relatives immediately, fearing for their safety, scurry for cover.

A team from Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrived at the house at about 3.45pm and managed to subdue the suspect without much problem.

State CID head SAC Denis Leong Soon Kuai, when contacted, confirmed the arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which carries up to two years’ jail and a fine upon conviction.

It is understood that before the incident unfolded, the suspect, who is working for his parents to deliver oil palm fruits, had demanded some money, but his father refused to give it to him.

He then lost his temper and threaten to kill both his parents.

No one was hurt in the incident. — DayakDaily
