KUCHING, Oct 28: The Sessions Court here sentenced a youth to a 10-year imprisonment and whipping for raping a 10-year-old girl.

The 19-year-old offender pleaded guilty to the charge framed.

Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga accepted his plea of guilty and convicted him as charged after hearing his social report from the Welfare Department officer.

The youth was charged for raping a 10-year-old girl at her house in RPR Taman Sri Cahaya Batu Kawa, between January and September 2019.

He was charged under Section 376(2) of the Penal Code which carries an imprisonment term between ten years and thirty years, and liable to whipping, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, the victim told the school’s counsellor during a counselling session on July 3 this year that her sister’s boyfriend raped her.

Upon informing of the incident, the counsellor reported the case to the school administration and contacted the victim’s mother who was advised to lodge a police report.

The victim’s mother, however, did not do so.

In the counselling session that followed, the victim again told the counsellor that she was raped by the accused at her house on different dates. The counsellor lodged a police report right after.
