KUCHING, Aug 5: A young mother of one has been announced as the grand prize winner of the ‘MAGGI Jom Masak, Menang & Kongsi Bersama’ campaign and brought home a brand-new Proton X70 SUV.
Michelle Wong, 26, said this was a special gift for her newborn daughter and her family, and she was thankful to MAGGI for the prize.
“I was surprised, but I also believe my daughter brought us luck,” she said when interviewed during the prize-giving ceremony at Vivacity Mall today.
Wong, an avid fan of the brand’s instant noodles, particularly the ‘Curry’ and ‘Mi Goreng Perisa Cili ala Kampung’ varieties, also uses the brand’s condiments to prepare family meals.
“MAGGI’s chilli and tomato sauces are a need in our daily lives—we don’t have a single meal without them,” she said.
Meanwhile, Kuching City South Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who officiated at the programme’s closing ceremony, said that MAGGI is a much-loved household brand that most, if not all, Sarawakians have grown up with.
He appreciated how MAGGI celebrated the distinctive and unique Gawai Festival with their customers through their campaign.
“It is especially apt to have this campaign in Sarawak that celebrates unity in diversity and bonding over our shared love of food, where all our unique traditional dishes from our diverse ethnic groups combined have made Kuching city recognised as a UCCN Creative City of Gastronomy,” he said.
Business Executive Officer of Food Business Unit Nestleé and MAGGI Malaysia, Ivy Tan Link Cheh, pointed out that they are humbled by the spirit Sarawakians celebrate this cultural festival, and MAGGI is honoured to be part of the celebration.
“We thank all Sarawakians for the overwhelming response to the Gawai contest over the last 20 years since we began in 2003, as it is heartening to see the support and appreciation for the MAGGI brand during this time is truly the time when we see the love and support for the brand.
“This year, we also celebrate the 30th anniversary of our factory in Kuching, where products are truly made by Malaysians for Malaysians. Through our shared love of food and rich cultural heritage, MAGGI enjoys delighting our consumers with our noodles and culinary offerings.
“We always look forward to making ‘Jom Masak, Menang & Kongsi Bersama’ more meaningful with even more local cuisine recipes to continue inspiring our Sarawakian consumers,” she said.
MAGGI’s annual campaign, which ran from May 1 to June 30, 2023, gave away a total of RM135,000 in prizes, including the much-coveted grand prize of a brand-new Proton X70 SUV.
The campaign also enabled consumers to give back to the community. With every entry form submitted, MAGGI donated RM0.10 to two local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Sabah (Malaysian Red Crescent Society) and Sarawak (Hope Place) and has collected a total of RM30,496.
Other winners included Fong Mei Yun (first runner-up), Norashikinn Daud (second runner-up), and Law Hie Hie (third runner-up).
Prizes such as Philips TVs and air fryers, kitchenware sets, and weekly cash prize giveaways were also up for grabs.
The ‘ngiling tikai’ event will be hosted until August 6, when MAGGI continues celebrating through exclusive promotions, gifts, and samples of the newly launched products.
Nestlé Malaysia (Sarawak region) general sales operation manager Lee Tsuen Fu and Nestlé corporate executive chef Muluk were also present at the event.
