SIBU, Sept 18: Firefighters rescued a young mother and her one-year-old child from the third floor of a shophouse on Jalan Lanang this afternoon after a fire broke out.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak reported that the 24-year-old mother and her child were unharmed in the incident, which occurred at 2.56pm.
Upon arrival, firefighters from Sibu Central and Sungai Merah stations discovered that the ground floor of the premises, which housed a motorcycle shop, had been completely destroyed by the fire.
All four employees of the shop escaped without injury.
Firefighters worked from multiple sides of the building to control and extinguish blaze, which was contained by 3.35pm.
Overhauling operations continued to ensure no remaining sources of ignition, with the entire operation concluding around 4pm.
The cause of fire and the extent of the losses are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
