Yong urges state government to expedite promised BKSS payouts

KUCHING, July 26: Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong requests the Sarawak government, especially the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU) to make promised payments to eligible recipients under the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 2020 assistance programme as soon as possible.

She added that many have made appeals through the district offices and online customer services to enquire about the financial assistance because verification of their appeals have yet to be completed despite the deadline of payment being just around the corner.

According to the Sarawak EPU recent press release, a total of 78,123 households from the low income B40 group, whose eligibility for the BKSS 2020 is based on the updated Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) list, should be receiving their aid payments by the end of July.

“We have received feedback from the public, particularly those from the B40 households earning below RM4,000 per month and single Sarawakians aged 21 and above earning below RM2,000 per month, who meet the criteria for the BKSS assistance have yet to receive any payout from the Sarawak State Government,” said Yong in a press statement today.

She further emphasised that EPU has the responsibility to ensure the latest status for the people’s appeal cases to be immediately made available for public checking through online platforms.

“If it is the Sarawak government’s plan to make payment to all qualified appellants by end of this month (July 2020), it is unlikely that the appeal results are not ready for public consumption.

“It is quite disappointing to note that up until now, most of the online status for the appeal BKKS cases submitted earlier stated that verification of data is still in progress despite the deadline for publication of appeal results was fixed on June 15 by the state government,” she said. —DayakDaily
