KUCHING, Jan 31: Construction of Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School (YSISS) campuses in Bintulu and Miri is currently underway, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to him, the Miri campus, located in the Beraya area within the Bekenu constituency, has completed the tendering process and is now under construction.

The Bintulu campus is progressing at a similar stage.

“Right now, the campuses are under construction. In Miri, it will be somewhere around Bekenu; the Beraya area. The tender has already been awarded. The Bintulu campus is also the same.

“These additions will bring Sarawak’s total to five international schools, with one more currently in the planning stage,” he told reporters after the opening ceremony of YSISS Kuching today.

YSISS was launched as part of Sarawak’s plan to raise education standards through five international schools offering the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum.

The first campus opened in April 2022 at the former Tunku Putra School premises in Petra Jaya, acquired by the State.

The second campus, YSISS Kuching, located at Mile 12, Kuching-Serian Road, started classes on March 11, 2024.

The third campus, located in Sungai Merah Town District, Sibu, has previously been reported to be scheduled to open late last year. This will be followed by the campuses in Miri and Bintulu.

While these five campuses are being developed, discussions are underway for a new international school in Betong Division, which will serve students from Sri Aman to Sarikei. — DayakDaily
