KUCHING, Nov 5: Yayasan Sarawak plays a pivotal role in developing skilled talent to help Sarawak overcome the middle-income trap and advance towards a high-income economy.

Premier Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the establishment of the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development reflected the State government’s recognition of the importance of nurturing talent to drive the new economy.

“Yayasan Sarawak has to play a very important and pivotal role in producing Sarawakians with the talent needed to lift our economy out of the middle-income trap and transform it into an advanced economy,” he said when officiating at the Yayasan Sarawak 55th Anniversary Gala Night at a hotel here last night (Nov 4).

Abang Johari said the global economy was undergoing a significant transformation, shifting from the internet-driven era towards robotic operations, artificial intelligence (AI) and now quantum AI.

He noted that Sarawak could not remain isolated from these changes and must prepare its people to participate in and benefit from the emerging economy.

He said these efforts were aimed at producing Sarawakians with a global outlook who could compete and contribute meaningfully to an increasingly knowledge-driven economy.

Abang Johari added that access to quality education must be made available to all Sarawakians, regardless of whether they lived in rural or urban areas.

He stressed that educational opportunities must be inclusive and accessible to all segments of society, as quality education remained essential to Sarawak’s future progress. — DayakDaily
