KUCHING, Aug 31: Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School (YSISS) Sibu is expected to commence full operations in September, pending the Education Department’s final approval.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Sarawak Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the school has been fully completed since the beginning of this year and has received all approvals from local authorities including the Fire Department.
“Now we are just waiting for the final approval from the Education Department. I am confident that this will not be a problem because our relationship with the relevant parties is good,” he said during an official visit to YSISS Sibu, on Saturday.
He further noted that while the campus in Sibu is still awaiting full operation, the YSISS school session has started since March with students from the Central Zone temporarily housed at YSISS Kuching.
“If everything goes well, the students will move to this campus in September. They have already attended learning sessions with the appointed teachers and principal,” he said.
The visit included a symbolic handover of a replica key from the project implementer to Yayasan Sarawak, marking the school’s completion.
YSISS Sibu comprises nine classes capable of accommodating 25 students each and is equipped with modern facilities, including a science laboratory.
Its curriculum is based on the Cambridge IGCSE, with the majority of subjects taught in English while History is taught in Bahasa Malaysia.
With the establishment of YSISS Sibu, Yayasan Sarawak now operates three international schools alongside Kuching and Miri, broadening access to global-standard education for local students.
Also present were the Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development of Sarawak, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Adana Jed and the Director of Yayasan Sarawak, Mohamad Junaidi Mohidin. – DayakDaily
