Yayasan Petronas contributes ventilators, PPE to Sarawak hospitals

MIRI, Aug 25: Petronas, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm Yayasan Petronas, delivered 23 ventilators to hospitals in Sarawak to equip the healthcare frontliners in their fight against Covid-19 cases.

The ventilators were delivered to four hospitals, namely Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) in Kuching, Pusat Jantung (SGH) Samarahan, Bintulu Hospital and Miri Hospital.

Apart from that, Yayasan Petronas also donated 9,021 bottles of hand sanitisers, 15,000 face masks and 14,340 personal protection equipment (PPE) gowns to the four hospitals as well as Sibu Hospital and Sarikei Hospital.


Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd – Sarawak Oil (PCSB-SK Oil) senior general manager Morris Mail said the donations were part of Yayasan Petronas’ RM20 million contribution in the form of critical medical equipment and supplies for hospitals in Malaysia.

“They are aligned with our continuous effort to create positive social impact by ensuring the good health and well-being of the people We hope that the donations can assist hospitals and healthcare front-liners to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 in the state,” said Morris.

The contribution from Yayasan Petronas is being carried out in stages in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the National Disaster Management Agency.

In early May this year, Yayasan Petronas had contributed seven (7) units of intensive care unit (ICU) beds to SGH Kuching, Sarikei Hospital, Sibu Hospital, Bintulu Hospital and Miri Hospital.

Other than medical equipment, Petronas and its subsidiaries have also extended assistance to the enforcement authorities as well as contributed essential food items to deserving households to ease their burden during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

Previously, Petronas’ subsidiaries, including Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG), PCSB-SK Oil, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd – Sarawak Gas (PCSB-SK Gas) and Asean Bintulu Fertilizer Sdn Bhd (ABF) collectively contributed sanitizing equipment and chemicals worth RM24,000 to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Services Department to disinfect buildings and public roads across major cities and towns in Sarawak.

PCSB-SK Oil, PCSB-SK Gas and MLNG have also donated personal protective equipment (PPE) and food items to more than 1,000 healthcare and enforcement agency frontliners in Bintulu and Miri.

Meanwhile, Yayasan Petronas and Petronas Dagangan Bhd (PDB) handed over essential food items and Petronas Mesra Gift Cards to some 1,200 low-income families in Bintulu and Miri through its Sentuhan Kasih programme.

More recently, Yayasan Petronas and Petronas’ subsidiaries in Bintulu donated face masks, hand sanitizers and manual dispensers to schools in Miri and Bintulu, benefiting more than 20,000 students and teachers.—DayakDaily
