Yayasan Petronas contributes school supplies to 2,940 students in Sarawak

KUCHING, May 26: Yayasan Petronas has contributed school supplies to 2,940 primary and lower secondary school students in Sarawak through its ‘Powering Knowledge: Back-to-School Programme’ (BTS 2023).

The BTS 2023 packs will be distributed to selected students from 240 schools in Kuching, Bau, Lundu, Samarahan, Padawan, Serian, Simunjan, Sri Aman, Lubok Antu, Betong, Saratok, Sarikei, Maradong, Julau, Kanowit, Sibu, Song, Kapit, Daro, Dalat, Miri, Tatau, Sebauh, Belaga, Baram, Miri, Lawas and Limbang through the District Education Offices (PPDs).

Each student will receive vouchers which can be redeemed for one set of school uniform, a pair of black shoes, socks, and sports attire.

In addition, a classroom kit comprising a school bag, color pencils, and stationery set will also be distributed to lower primary school students while the secondary school students will receive the same classroom kit including a scientific calculator.

According to Yayasan Petronas chief executive officer Shariah Nelly Francis, Yayasan Petronas is committed to the academic success of students as they understand the importance for students to be equipped with the classroom essentials to not only help them stay in school, but to thrive in their respective classrooms as well.

“By providing students with these essential school supplies through BTS 2023, we can help set them up for success and ensure that they are well-equipped to face the challenges of the new school term,” she said at the launching ceremony of BTS 2023 held at Auditorium, Jabatan Pelajaran Negeri Sarawak (JPNS) today.

The programme began over 10 years ago as part of Petronas’ goal of enabling students from low-income families to continuously participate in the education process and finish school, while also helping to reduce the financial burden of their parents.

This year, Yayasan Petronas has contributed essential school supplies to 21,000 lower primary and lower secondary school students across Malaysia, in line with the start of the 2023 academic year. — DayakDaily
