KUCHING, Sept 29: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa branch chairman Wilfred Yap hopes that all programmes under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) would consider all stakeholders fairly and equally, in particular B40 households.
He also hoped that no minority group or community would experience any loss or sense of deprivation under the 12MP.
Yap in a statement today said the set targets for boosting economic growth and equitable distribution of our nation’s wealth under the 12MP should focus on rapid growth and expansion of the economy so that only newly created wealth would be affected under any new affirmative action policies.
He believed the attention should be on capacity building while simultaneously finding ways to integrate more need-based assistance to achieve the goals under the 12MP.
“I also hope that the current government would embrace the fundamental principle of just and fair accommodation, consultation and compromise amongst all the stakeholders (races) as the basis of all policy targets and timelines in the implementation of the 12MP,” he said.
Besides, Yap hoped that that the objective of “A Prosperous, Inclusive, Sustainable Malaysia” outlined in 12MP development would not lose focus on the needs and unity of all Malaysians regardless of social status, race or religion.
He believed the objective is crucial for the advancement of Malaysia as a whole because without a sense of unity and solidarity, it will translate into more race-based policies rather than needs-based policies.
He cited one example of a recent regressive race-based policy is the 51 per cent bumiputra equity rule for freight forwarding companies.
On another matter, Yap who is also SUPP Public Complaint Bureau (SUPP PCB) Chief disclosed that a burst water pipe located along Jalan Liu Shan Bang has been repaired.
He said SUPP PCB had earlier received a compliant from residents at Jalan Liu Shan Bang about a burst water pipe and the matter has been communicated to the Kuching Water Board (KWB).
He added SUPP PCB is always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone facing problems or who come across problems of public interest but does not know how to deal with it.
Yap said anyone requiring assistance can contact SUPP PCB at 016-7797688 or 082-246999 or go direct to SUPP head office to request for assistance. — DayakDaily
