KUCHING, Sept 30: Herman Tino, a very popular Malaysian singer in the early 80s to 90s and famous with hit single ‘Yale Yale’, is expected to make an appearance at the upcoming State banquet event held in conjunction with Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s 78th birthday celebration next month.
Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Transport II (Riverine and Marine), Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, who is the responsible man for the State dinner, said his team made a courtesy call to the Governor last week.
“We wanted to play music of his taste, which is very important and a salient point that he mentioned to us.
“If I’m not mistaken, Herman Tino will be coming because the Governor likes his songs and is friends with the singer; he always meets the singer in Kuala Lumpur.
“This is what he told us, so we try to accommodate that for him because this is his first birthday as the Tuan Yang Terutama (Governor),” he told reporters after officiating the Pertubuhan Wartawan Bebas Kuching’s (Pewarta) Etiquette Workshop for Journalists 2024 held at Imperial Hotel here today.
The State Banquet will take place at Dewan Santapan in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Complex on Oct 12 at 8pm. About 400 notable guests have been invited to the dinner.
The dinner will feature entertaining performances, a cake-cutting ceremony, and a fireworks display.
Apart from the State Banquet, there are several other significant events lined up for Wan Junaidi’s 78th birthday celebration scheduled to take place from Oct 10 to 13 in Kuching.
A thanksgiving ceremony will be held at Masjid Jamek at 6pm on Oct 10, while on Oct 11, a special sermon will be held during Friday prayers at all mosques throughout Sarawak.
On the same day, an interfaith thanksgiving ceremony will also be held at Riverside Majestic at 8am.
On Oct 12, a ceremonial parade and assembly will be held at Padang Merdeka in Kuching at 7.30am, followed by conferral of state honours at 11.30am at Astana Negeri Sarawak and the State banquet in the evening.
The tea reception ceremony will be held on Oct 13 at 10am at Sarawak Chamber, Riverside Majestic Hotel.
The celebration will be broadcast live on TVS, Astro channel 122, MyTV, and can be streamed on Sarawak Public Communications Unit’s (Ukas) Facebook page and YouTube channel. — DayakDaily
