Following intelligence gathered, police carried out arrests between Jan 10 and Jan 12, detaining five local male suspects aged between 24 and 42 believed to be involved in the case.

Investigations revealed that two of the suspects were workshop employees who allegedly colluded with two others to carry out the theft, while another suspect was identified as the buyer of the stolen cables.

Police also seized a Perodua Myvi believed to have been used to travel to the scene and transport the stolen cables. With the arrests, the case has been solved, and efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen items.

All suspects have been remanded until Jan 15 and Jan 16, 2026, to facilitate further investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Further checks found that three of the suspects have prior criminal records involving theft and drug abuse. Initial urine screening also showed that four of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.

Police have called on the public to continue providing information and to cooperate with authorities in combating crime. Members of the public may contact the Miri district police operations room at 085-433400 with any relevant information. — DayakDaily
