KUCHING, Oct 11: The Ministry of Works has welcomed the RM300 million increase in development allocation under Budget 2026, which will be used to strengthen road infrastructure maintenance works across the nation.
In a TVS news, Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the ministry is satisfied with the higher allocation compared to the previous year, noting that the additional funds will go towards critical projects such as road maintenance, slope repairs, street lighting installation, and other essential infrastructure improvements.
“At the ministry, we are quite pleased with the increase of RM300 million for development. This additional funding is crucial to ensure that vital maintenance and infrastructure enhancement works can be carried out efficiently,” he said after attending the Sarawak State Honours Investiture Ceremony at the Astana Negeri today.
Nanta added that Budget 2026 also strengthens the local construction sector by increasing allocations for small contractors in categories G1 to G4, helping them remain competitive and continue playing an active role in government projects.
In addition, RM30 million has been allocated to district engineers nationwide to provide flexibility in carrying out urgent maintenance and minor repair works that require immediate attention.
“This allocation will greatly help us resolve infrastructure issues more promptly, especially those that demand quick action but do not involve large costs,” he explained.
Nanta reaffirmed the ministry’s continued commitment to driving national progress through sustainable and inclusive infrastructure development and maintenance, by fully utilising the RM10.35 billion allocation under Budget 2025.
Meanwhile, Nanta’s wife, Dato Angeline Celestine Ujang, was conferred the Darjah Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Sarawak, Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak (PSBS), which carries the title Dato, in conjunction with the 79th birthday celebration of Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar today.
“Indeed, this honour is not only a source of pride for our family but also for our relatives and the people of Kapit Division, as well as for women in the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) who have always offered their support and prayers,” Nanta said in his social media post.
He expressed hope that the recognition will serve as an inspiration to continue contributing and serving the people and Sarawak.
Nanta also extended his congratulations to Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, who was conferred the Darjah Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Kenyalang Sarawak, Datuk Amar Bintang Kenyalang (DA), which carries the title Datuk Amar, along with other 42 recipients of the State Orders and Medals. — DayakDaily
