KUCHING, March 3: The Ministry of Works (KKR) will elevate a proposal to construct a flyover at the Saratok junction along the Pan Borneo Highway for consideration by the Ministry of Economy, before submitting it to the Ministry of Finance for allocation approval.

Giving this assurance, Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the proposal was raised during a courtesy visit by a delegation of Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK) from Saratok to the ministry this morning, citing increasing traffic volume and road safety concerns at the busy intersection.

“I have informed them that KKR will bring this application to the Ministry of Economy for consideration. Should it receive support, it will then be submitted to the Ministry of Finance for funding approval,” he said in a statement posted on his social media.

During the meeting, Nanta also outlined the roles and responsibilities of KKR as the implementing agency for development projects, including those under other ministries such as the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) and the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).

“In Sarawak, KKR’s scope focuses primarily on federal roads and the Pan Borneo Highway project, which is a key infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity and driving economic growth across the State,” he said.

Nanta also took the opportunity to brief the delegation on the procedures for implementing development projects under the Malaysia Plan, including plans to upgrade the “missing link” (Red Line) stretch of the Pan Borneo alignment from R3 to R5 standards to improve comfort and safety for road users.

He stressed that such engagements are important to ensure community representatives have a clear understanding of project implementation processes and development planning frameworks.

“May this session further strengthen ties and benefit all parties as we continue our collective efforts to enhance infrastructure development for the well-being of the people,” he added. — DayakDaily
