KUCHING, Sept 9: Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has encouraged road users to take pictures and report lorry drivers along Jalan Bakun caught violating traffic rules through the MYJalan application.
In his Facebook post today, Nanta, also Kapit MP, said this is to ensure that appropriate action can be taken against the offender immediately.
“Today, I went to the ground again to inspect the condition of Jalan Simpang Bakun to Bakun Dam (FT803), which suffered damage due to overloaded trucks using this route regularly.
“I received a report that these lorries deliberately broke the rules, and some even cut the equipment installed to prevent them from using the route,” he said.
He added that in line with the Works Ministry’s #MYJalan Campaign, launched by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on August 24, he has also discussed a collaboration with local residents and requested the help of other road users to report immediately.
“Through the #MYJalan Campaign, comprehensive action is being implemented involving the Ministry of Transport to find a long-term solution, ensuring that the issue of road damage caused by overloaded vehicles can be reduced,” he said.
On the same note, Nanta said that for Jalan Simpang Bakun to Bakun Dam, the Ministry has approved RM7.5 million to repair the damaged road pavement due to the weakness in the pavement structure.
He also said that the allocation, among other things, involves the immediate repair of critical road damage locations and the installation of gantry and road signs of the permitted load weight limit.
“The Ministry also plans to widen part of the route involving a cut-off at a suitable location for the convenience of users in 2024, depending on the approval in the 2024 Budget.
“In total, the Ministry needs RM30 million to upgrade this route, and I assure you that we will try to get the allocation for the comfort and safety of users,” he said. — DayakDaily
