KUCHING, Dec 10: In this era of rapid digital technology advancement, particularly under the wave of emerging technologies, technical professions must be prioritised as a national strategic agenda.
In a TVS news, Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the expertise of engineers, architects, technologists, safety professionals, and specialists across various technical fields forms the lifeblood of national progress, underpinning Malaysia’s infrastructure, modern technology, and economic competitiveness.
He stressed that technical professionals are the driving force ensuring Malaysia remains relevant in digital technology, automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI).
“Technical professions are no longer just career paths; they carry a vital responsibility in shaping the nation’s future,” he said when speaking at the National Technical Profession Day (HPTN) 2025 opening ceremony at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Johor Bahru today.
He urged the younger generation to view the field as a platform for innovation capable of addressing public challenges and global issues.
On the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Nanta emphasised the importance of adopting new technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and Big Data to enhance learning and management efficiency.
Traditional approaches are no longer sufficient. We must embrace change boldly and leverage technology to strengthen the nation’s capabilities,” he added.
He also highlighted innovations like robotics, Industrialised Building Systems (IBS), and Building Information Modeling (BIM), which are transforming the construction sector with improved safety, precision, and productivity.
This transformation, he noted, paves the way for smarter, more sustainable, and globally competitive development.
Nanta concluded by stressing the need for holistic planning in developing a skilled technical workforce to ensure human capital remains relevant, high-quality, and aligned with the Madani government’s aspirations and global demands.
However, he reminded that technology only gains meaning when guided by wisdom and compassion for the people. — DayakDaily
