KUCHING, Aug 4: The rate of delayed or “sick” projects under the Ministry of Works (KKR) has been reduced from 6.18 per cent to 5.92 per cent, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve project delivery and implementation, said Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
Speaking at the ministry’s monthly assembly today, Nanta said the government’s performance should not be measured by the number of meetings held or policies announced, but by tangible outcomes that directly benefit the people.
He said the Public Works Department (JKR) is currently managing development, maintenance and upgrading projects worth nearly RM140 billion.
“Of the 844 projects currently under construction, 232 are ahead of schedule, 272 are progressing according to schedule, while the rate of sick projects has successfully been reduced from 6.18 per cent to 5.92 per cent,” he said in a post shared on his social media.
Nanta stressed that every infrastructure project carries a larger responsibility beyond physical construction, as roads, schools and hospitals built by the government directly affect the quality of life of Malaysians.
“Behind every road, school and hospital that is built, there are the lives of people that we seek to improve,” he said.
He also highlighted the role of agencies under KKR in ensuring better infrastructure outcomes. The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), he said, continues to enhance the safety and reliability of the country’s highway network, including through the installation of 3,000 solar-powered LED streetlights at 32 accident-prone locations.
Meanwhile, the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) is driving transformation in the construction sector through the adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology, skilled workforce development, innovation and sustainable construction practices.
Nanta urged ministry personnel and agencies to focus on execution and problem-solving, calling for a stronger delivery culture.
“My message to the entire KKR family is clear — ‘Less Excuses. More Execution.’ Reduce excuses, find solutions and ensure every project truly delivers benefits to the people,” he said. — DayakDaily
