Infections among workers in Kuala Baram give rise to new cluster with 33 Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, June 20: Covid-19 infections among workers’ quarters in Kuala Baram, Miri have given rise to a new cluster known as the Lorong Perlis Empat Cluster with 33 cases identified.

Due to the outbreak, SDMC had placed the workers’ quarters under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).


To date, a total of 769 individuals related  to the cluster have been screened for Covid-19.

Out of that number, 33 positive cases have been detected and 323 individuals were tested negative while the balance of 413 individuals are awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test.

SDMC said all Covid-19 patients for the cluster have been admitted to the Miri Hospital and Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centre (PKRC) for isolation and treatment.

The Lorong Perlis Empat Cluster in Miri is one of the four new clusters of Covid-19 identified by the State Health Department.

The other three new clusters are the Jalan Usaha Jaya Cluster, Kampung Taba Sait Cluster and the Jalan Tabuan Tranquility Cluster all in Kuching.

Meanwhile, four clusters of Covid-19 have ended.

They are the Jalan Stadium Negeri Cluster in Kuching, Taman Sourabaya Indah Cluster (Kuching), Jalan Jambatan Gantung (Kuching) and Sungai Majau Cluster (Kanowit).

With four new clusters of coronavirus formed and four clusters ended, there are still a total of 95 active clusters of Covid-19 in Sarawak.

Out of the 95 active clusters , 14 active clusters reported 158 new cases of coronavirus while the balance of 81 active clusters did not report new cases.— DayakDaily
