26 workers of childcare centre at Batu Lintang and restaurant at Metrocity test positive, spark two new workplace clusters

KUCHING, Sept 6: Some 11 workers of a childcare centre at Batu Lintang Road and 15 workers of a restaurant at Metro City, Petra Jaya testing positive for Covid-19 spark two new workplace clusters in Kuching today.

According to a report by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the clusters were dubbed as Jalan Batu Lintang Cluster and Warong Metrocity Cluster respectively.


For Jalan Batu Lintang Cluster, the 11 individuals tested positive for Covid-19 were among 14 individuals swabbed. The remaining three individuals are still awaiting their test results.

As for Warong Metrocity Cluster, the swab test conducted on 15 workers of an eatery at Bandar Baru Metro City found that all of them were positive for Covid-19.

SDMC said the positive cases from both clusters have been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC) in Kuching for isolation and treatment.

The two clusters in Kuching were among seven new clusters identified in Sarawak today. The other five are Sawit 16 Cluster in Beluru, Jalan Bulan Sabit Cluster in Miri, Bijongon Cluster and Jalan Market Cluster in Bau and Lubok Besai Cluster in Pakan.

On the other hand, SDMC announced the end of five clusters today, namely Sentosa 2 Cluster, Telaga Air Cluster and Taman Malihah Cluster in Kuching; Jalan Selalang Cluster in Sarikei and Nangga Serenggas Cluster in Tatau.

There are 139 active clusters of coronavirus in Sarawak to date, of which 27 of them reported an increase of 178 new cases today. — DayakDaily
