BINTANGOR, June 24: All longhouse chiefs and village headmen must work closely with their elected representatives to resolve problems and bring development and progress to their areas.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said any problems or bottlenecks encountered should be discussed together so as not to hamper the implementation of any programmes and projects.
“Instead of creating unnecessary issues, let us all work closely together.
“Also, communicate with your representatives on your needs and aspirations,” he advised when officiating the Mupong Unity Gawai programme jointly organised by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) and Semop Constituency Service Centre at Mupong today.
Uggah also emphasised that community leaders should not be hesitant in adopting modern ways of doing things or new technologies to ensure they would not be left behind.
He reminded that the spirit of cooperation, mutual consultation, and unity are still important even after almost 60 years of Sarawak’s independence.
He added Sarawak is very fortunate as all Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) elected representatives have shown themselves to be hard-working and people-centric leaders.
“Your assemblyman Datu Abdullah Saidol (for Semop) has been very fair to the rakyat, irrespective of their race or religion,” he said.
On the request by Abdullah for a bridge to be built at Tanah Putih here, Uggah said the Divisional Public Works Department (JKR) would be asked to study the matter.
“I hope the department can give me the report soonest,” he added.
