BAU, Aug 31: Work on Phase II of the new Bau District Office will commence in July next year upon expiry of a one-year liability period for the project’s completed Phase I.
Deputy Minister of Transport Dato Henry Harry Jinep, said Phase II of the project will include installation of an escalator and other finishing work.
“For the new Bau District Office, which has a total cost of RM7.5 million, Phase II of the project will start next year (July) after the expiry of the one-year liability period, but they can now start to tender it out,” he said on Wednesday night (Aug 30) at the soft opening of the project’s Phase I.
He said Phase I of the project is worth RM4.59 million and was completed in July this year, adding Phase II will use the remainder of the RM7.5 million allocation.
He thanked Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for consenting to continue with the next phase.
Henry said the new district office was very much needed in view of Bau’s increasing population which now stands at 72,000 and the high expectations of the people for better service.
He said that the new headquarters comes at the right time when Sarawak is celebrating its 60th year of independence and 93rd year of Bau administration, and will become an iconic landmark for Bau District.
He further said that the new building which is adjacent to a Chinese temple can share parking lots during any celebration for the convenience of the people.
