SIBU, Nov 9: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for P211 Lanang, Wong Ching Yong is challenging incumbent and DAP candidate Alice Lau to reveal all the allocations and developments done during her two-terms in office.
“Alice said that she has contributed more than RM2.4 million during her 10 years as MP. I challenge her to list out all the allocations and developments that she has brought to the people of Lanang,” said Wong at a press conference today.
Meanwhile Wong said Lau is misleading the people by saying that if Pakatan Harapan forms the next government, the nation’s inflation rate would be the same at 0.66 per cent during its previous 22 months’ of its rule.
“This statement is very misleading and not objective because she did not take into consideration the impact from the Ukraine War. Most of Ukraine’s export of grain and other agricultural products are to European countries. From Russia, it is gas. Now the supplies have been affected (due to the war),” he said.
All these factors have lead to high inflation rates worldwide.
“In September, the inflation rate in Britain was 9 per cent. The Bank of England predicted that the rate in January 2023 in Britain will be 18.6 per cent which will be the highest. In Singapore in September the rate of inflation was 7.5 per cent while for Malaysia it was 5 per cent,” said Wong.
He added that with tension between Taiwan and China, it will also cause countries in Asian to be affected in terms of economy and cost of living.
“We will also be expecting Malaysia to be facing an inflation problem next year. This is my reply to Alice’ statement that they would be able to maintain an inflation rate at 0.66 per cent if PH wins the election,” he said. — DayakDaily
