KUCHING, June 23: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a woman with a hearing disability to one day of imprisonment and a fine of RM1,000 for stealing daily necessities from a supermarket.
The 36-year-old barber pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar, carrying a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine.
The accused was found to have committed the offence at a supermarket at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce at around 6:35 pm on June 19.
According to the brief facts of the case, the complainant, in this case, was a sales assistant at the aforementioned supermarket.
The complainant found the accused’s actions suspicious and followed her, discovering that the accused had left the supermarket with several items without making any payment at the counter, and immediately informed the security guard.
Upon investigation, it was found that 18 items were taken without payment, including a packet of biscuits, a tray of eggs, a packet of sanitary pads, two bottles of carbonated beverages, a bag, and several detergents. The estimated loss amounted to RM435.15.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang handled the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
