SIBU, March 21: A female clerk had RM25,000 charged to her credit cards after she was conned into believing that she had won a lucky draw.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said today that on Mar 18, the 54-year-old victim was at her home in Jalan Kangkong when she received a text message informing her that she had won RM8,888 through a Boost app contest.

She ignored the message initially but a few minutes later, she again received a message in her WhatsApp from a man who said she was the lucky winner of RM8,888 in a lucky draw.

“The man asked her to provide information on her credit card so that the prize money could be transferred to her,” he added.

Thinking that it was a real, she did as requested. She gave the numbers and PIN number of her two credit cards to the man.

Stanley said the victim was shocked when she found out that a total of RM25,000 were debited from her two credit cards to another account.

She lodged a police report the next day.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. —DayakDaily
