KUCHING, Aug 21: A woman who drove her luxury Toyota Land Cruiser to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak Complex to assist her boyfriend in reclaiming his seized Toyota Vellfire ended up losing her own SUV after enforcement officers discovered it had neither valid road tax nor insurance.

In a TVS news report, the incident unfolded during JPJ Sarawak’s ongoing “Ops Kenderaan Mewah”, which targets luxury vehicles found flouting road regulations.

Enforcement officers carried out a spontaneous inspection and uncovered several serious offences involving the Land Cruiser.

JPJ Sarawak, in a statement today, said the operation is aimed at ensuring luxury vehicle owners do not take compliance with road laws lightly.

“No matter what type of vehicle, luxury or otherwise, every owner must ensure their road tax and insurance are renewed.

“Negligence can pose safety risks and invite legal action,” the statement read.

The department added that “Ops Kenderaan Mewah” will continue from time to time, stressing that there will be no compromise against any party who fails to comply with the law. — DayakDaily
