Woman killed in hit-and-run in Mukah, cops calling for witnesses to assist investigation

MUKAH, Oct 15: Police are calling for witnesses to come forward to assist in the case of an elderly woman who died in a hit-and-run incident at Kilometer 100, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu, Selangau, this morning.

According to a TVS news report, Mukah district police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said that the victim, 64-year-old Malaya Unyang from Rumah Enggan Sungai Passin, Sibu, succumbed to her injuries.

He added that a team from the Selangau police station was dispatched to the scene of the incident after receiving a call at 6am.

“Investigation at the scene found that the accident area was a one-way, two-lane road heading towards Bintulu.

“The victim who was lying on the shoulder of the road is believed to have been hit by an unidentified vehicle,” he said.

He said the victim was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical officer.

Currently, he said, the police are conducting a thorough investigation to identify the vehicle involved.

“We are also looking for witnesses who can help with the investigation,” he said.

The case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
