KUCHING, June 12: The High Court here has discharged and acquitted a 28-year-old woman who was charged with trafficking syabu in 2020.
Wee Siang Joo was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, which carries a death sentence or imprisonment for life and whipping of not less than 15 strokes upon conviction.
High Court Judge Alwi Abdul Wahab ruled today that the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against the accused after calling five witnesses to testify.
Wee was charged with trafficking 105.43 grams of methamphetamine at a house in Taman Kenny at about 2pm on September 8, 2020.
The police raided the said house on September 8 and arrested the accused and nine other individuals, seizing several transparent plastic packets suspected to contain dangerous drugs.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ronie Entili prosecuted the case, while the accused was represented by counsel Louis Jarau. — DayakDaily
