Woman dies, sister and son severely injured in car crash

The car hit a tree and ended up in a ditch at Jalan Stabau.

SIBU, Jan 10: A woman was killed, while her sister and son were severely injured after their car lost control and hit a tree before ending up in a ditch at Jalan Stabau.

The deceased, Christina Umie Jalin, 24, was driving the Perodua Kelisa when the incident happened at 11am here today.


The deceased’s younger sister, who is in her early 20s, was found to be in a state of unconsciousness, while her nine-month-old son suffered a concussion.

Sibu Fire and Rescue acting chief, Wan Kamaruddin Wan Ahmad, when contacted, said only the driver was found trapped inside the car when firefighters arrived. Members of the public helped the other two victims to exit the vehicle.

“The female passenger, who was sitting next to the driver, is the driver’s sister, and her son, were rushed to Sibu Hospital for treatment,” he said.

He added that the driver was later pronounced dead by a Sibu Hospital medical officer.

Meanwhile, Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, confirmed the incident when contacted.

“We are still investigating the accident and more information will follow later,” he said.

He said the victim’s car was believed to have been travelling from Durin to Sibu when the tragedy struck. — DayakDaily
