She was charged under Section 352 of the Penal Code for using criminal force against Sultan Nazrin in front of Dewan Bandaran Ipoh at Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab at 8.20am on Aug 31.

If convicted, Nurshazwani Afni faces up to three months in jail, a fine of RM1,000, or both.

Deputy public prosecutor Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani requested that no plea be taken, citing preliminary findings that the accused suffers from schizophrenia. He also applied for her to undergo a one-month psychiatric observation and assessment at Hospital Bahagia Tanjung Rambutan under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“This is to confirm the accused’s mental illness and to evaluate her state of mind at the time of the incident, as well as her ability to enter a plea for trial,” Nasrul Hadi was quoted as saying.

The court granted the application.

The accused was represented by lawyer M. Saravanan from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
