Woman and son arrested for alleged abuse of baby

SIBU, Dec 3: A 40-year-old woman and her son have been arrested for allegedly abusing her 1-year-old grandchild at their home in Jalan Ding Lik Kong.

Sibu District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said that the woman and her 23-year-old son were picked up from their home a day after the child’s mother lodged a police report on December 1.

The suspect was taking care of the victim as his single mother was working. The victim, he said was the youngest of three children in the family.

The victim had been staying with the suspects after both his parents divorced.

“On November 29, the complainant went to the suspect’s home to fetch her son. She was shocked to find injuries and marks on his body,” he said.

Doctors at Sibu Hospital who examined the boy on December 1, found that his right leg and right were both broken, bruises on his face and neck and wounds on his lips.

On the advice of the doctors, the complainant lodged a police report on the same day

Stanley said the two suspects had been remanded for five days to assist investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of Child Act 2001. —DayakDaily
