MIRI, Oct 6: Police detained three local individuals, including a woman, on Saturday (Oct 5) on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking activities.
Miri District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrests were made by a team from the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD) Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division during a raid at 3.20pm at a residence in Miri.
“During the operation, officers discovered and seized a box labelled ‘fragile,’ which contained 1,100 grammes of a substance believed to be marijuana. Additionally, a red tin container holding another 0.4 grammes of marijuana was confiscated. The estimated value of the drugs is RM3,440,” he said.
The three suspects are set to be brought before the Miri Court for a remand application.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
If convicted under Section 39B, the suspects face the death penalty or, alternatively, life imprisonment and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
The police urged members of the public with information on drug-related activities to make a report at the nearest police station, stressing the importance of community cooperation in curbing the drug menace. — DayakDaily
