KUCHING, Nov 24: Without the people’s mandate, what is Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) fighting for, says Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah quoting the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president said it is only with a strong mandate from the people in the 12th Sarawak State Elections (PRN12) that GPS and its component parties can continue to pursue matters of mutual concern.

He said this while voicing his firm stand supporting Abang Johari that GPS is not done in its struggle to regain Sarawak’s rights under Article 112 of the Federal Constitution.

Meanwhile, Abdul Karim who is also Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports welcomed the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC)’s announcement of nomination and polling dates for PRN12 earlier today.

PRN12 must be held as soon as possible in order for GPS to get a fresh mandate from the people, he said in a statement today.

“This is also in line with our Right Honourable Chief Minister’s views on the fresh mandate which is vital for GPS to have a strong basis to continue its pursue on Sarawak’s rights,” he added. — DayakDaily
