Wishesland to expand support services for children with cerebral palsy to Sibu soon

SIBU, April 22: Wishesland Kuching, a local non-profit organisation, will be extending community support services for children with cerebral palsy (CP) to Sibu soon.

Wishesland Kuching’s founder cum president Chi Poh Yung said the organisation is in the process of registering Wishesland Sibu with the Registrar of Society (RoS).

“Many parents of children with CP in Sibu have been giving us positive feedback on the setting up of a Wishesland branch here. We hope the branch can be set up soon to give treatment to these children,” he said.

Chi, who is also Wishesland Sibu branch’s advisor, added that a pro-tem committee for Sibu branch with seven members has been set up and its first committee meeting was held virtually on March 22 through Zoom.

Meanwhile, Wishesland Sibu’s founder Kevin Yeo said that the Sibu team is currently looking for a suitable place to be its operating centre as well as seeking financial support from members of the public and companies for its first year’s operation, hopefully by the first half of 2023.

“The mission of Wishesland Sibu is to provide CP children with a reliable, effective and peace of mind recovery experience besides providing information to new parents and the public. Our mission is long term and we are seeking for continuous improvement in terms of CP’s fitness, intelligence and emotion.

“The objectives of Wishesland Sibu are to unite children and adults with CP and their families under one organisation; provide counselling services, rehabilitation and consolidated treatment; accept donation and raise funds, contribute welfare support and assistance to children and adults with CP; and protect their interests and rights besides fostering closer relationship,” he elaborated.

Programmes planned will include early intervention, integrated classroom, workshop facilities, short-term residential training, group homes, intensive parents training courses, toy library , hydrotherapy and Wishesland playground.

Chi encouraged all parents from Sibu who have children with CP to contact the organisation for necessary treatment or assistance.
